The Grammy’s might as well be called the “Swagger Like Us Awards.” At this years Grammy’s, TI, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay Z have a combined 24 nominations.
Lil Wayne: 8
Jay Z: 6
Kanye West: 6
TI: 6
Kanye West a.k.a Mr. Grammy is looking to add to his collection of 10 trophies with 6 more nominations this year. West will also be featured in two performances. The first alongside British songstress Estelle performing “American Boy” and second with his big brother, TI and Lil Wayne in “Swagger Like Us.”
TI a.k.a The King of the South has promised to deliver the performance of his lifetime. This will probaby be TIP’s last major performance before serving a 366-day bid in a Georgia State prison. Coming off another classic album in Paper Trail, TI will definitely have the hits needed to rock the Grammy crowd.
Jay-Z makes his comeback to the Grammy’s with his critically acclaimed American Gangster album. Influenced by the feature film starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, Hov gives us another classic with his Blue Magic and ROC Boys theme music.
And the main reason why Hip-Hop is takin’ over the Grammy’s this year…Lil Wayne.
From mixtape classics to the highest selling album of 2008, Lil Wayne has certified himself as Artist of the Year. What more can be said about the only rapper in the game, able to put out a mixtape every week and still remain relevant. Not only relevant, but the majority of his mixtapes are better than most rappers albums! Dwayne Michael Carter a.k.a Lil Weezy is also set to perform with R&B frontman Robin Thicke in his ode to New Orleans “Tie My Hands.” It’s a song that hits close to home for the 26 year old rapper, and one in which deals with the tragedies felt by Hurricane Katrina.
UPDATE: Just watched the performance via UStream’s Brazilian online telecast. I gotta say the performance was dope! MIA rocked the crowd with Kanye, Jay, Weezy and TIP. They callin’ themselves “The Rap Pack.” I’m waiting for the youtube version to put on this site….Stay tuned!
